Have not added anything lately and have not made any changes, I have a sound max digital sound card, is this a sign that it’s going out? Any help please, thanks in advance

I'm not sure what you mean about the cd thing, but im using a dell 4600 atm and we've had it for 3 years and its never failed hardware wise at all (touch would)
Make sure its not your speakers by using headphones, try to exit programs that you don't need by going to the prosesses tab in task manager and then try it; i have seen computers that have stressed out when playing music coz of all the stuff that was running in the background.
If this don't help i think that it could be goodby for your soundmax.

Mine did similar things right before my sound card went out. It did those things for about a week, and then my sound card totally crashed, and I had no sound (which was torture). It'd be worth checking all the things that b3n mentioned, but it could very possibly be your sound card.
